The influence of land cover variation on soil erosion vulnerability around coal mining concession areas in South Borneo

The availability of information about soil erosion vulnerability is necessary as a primary consideration to determine the effort conservation, particularly in coal mining area. This study aimed estimate potential risk from land cover variation concession site South Borneo. Data were taken 18 stations monitoring which evenly distributed each cover. Soil was quantified using Universal Loss Equation (USLE) method. comparison mean among types evaluated Kruskal-Wallis test and followed by Nemenyi with significant level 5%. Results found that significantly different covers (p<0.05). highest noted reclamation area 1,012.3 t ha<sup>-1</sup> year<sup>-1,</sup> while lowest observed plantation forests 47.9 year<sup>-1</sup>. Surprisingly, natural four times higher than oil palm plantations. Besides being located hilly areas high slope levels, vegetation density relatively low. However, our recorded there two critical factors highly correlated vulnerability, i.e., erodibility (R = 0.89; p<0.05) length steepness 0.85; p<0.05).
